Haoping Huang (黄皓平)
Haoping Huang’s expertise has been applied most recently to mineral, oil and gas exploration, geotechnical applications and UXO detection using EM, MT, magnetics and radiometrics. He has also developed new algorithms for time-domain HEM data processing and interpretation, for example, computing the B-field response from observed dB/dt data and conductivity-depth imaging based on a pseudo-layer half-space.
Before establiching Geo-EM as a consulting company, Huang worked on environmental research projects with Geophex in Raleigh, North Carolina (1999 to 2006) where he was employed as Research Geophysicist. Prior to this (1993-1999), he was Research Scientist with the mining exploration and environmental airborne contractor and of Geoterrex-Dighem (Fugro) in Toronto, Canada.
Mr. Huang’s strong academic background resulted from his studies at Changchun University of Earth Sciences (Jilin University), China, where he was a professor of geophysics, specializing in EM, for more than ten years. This led to his appointment as a visiting scholar at Brown University in Providence, RI (1987-1988). His strong practical knowledge was gained in the private sector while being employed with Geoterrex-Dighem (Fugro) and Geophex.
Haoping Huang has published numerous papers on airborne EM mapping, EM data processing and inversion, numerical modeling, digital signal processing, and UXO/landmine detection and discrimination. He is a member of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) and of the Australian SEG.
Steve Norton
Mr. Huang is partnering with Steve Norton (Ph.D., Applied Physics, Stanford, 1976), Physicist, on an as-required basis. Dr. Norton Stephen has had experience in developing electromagnetic-induction inversion algorithms for the non-destructive evaluation (NDE) of materials in a 15 year career at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Gaithersburg, MD. He has also developed geophysical inversion algorithms at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, including subsurface EMI imaging algorithms.
Dr. Norton has published about 75 papers on all aspects of inversion and imaging, including diffraction tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, Mossbauer tomography, ultrasonic imaging in medicine and NDE, Compton scattering tomography, electromagnetic induction imaging, as well as other areas.
